Lifelong learning

A "hot" topic in 2020. Why is this a necessity and is the government encouraging it?

By taking advantage of training, employees can stay up-to-date with changes in their jobs, or more easily transfer to another job. Even as a job seeker, you can increase your job prospects through continuing education or a work-study program. This keeps adults flexibly employable in the labor market.

One can learn in different ways. This can be in practice (on the shop floor), but also by attending training or a course.

Need for lifelong learning

The government encourages adult education for several reasons:

  • The labor market is changing rapidly. Certain professions are disappearing and new ones are taking their place. Consider professions that have emerged thanks to new technology: creating apps, programming robots or developing nanotechnology.
  • Companies and organizations are increasingly spreading around the world. As a result, competition is also increasing internationally. In reorganizations, some employees then have to leave. Therefore, having knowledge in different fields has become important to make it easier to work elsewhere.
  • With all the rapid changes in the job market, society is becoming more complicated. Therefore, it is important for everyone to get along well with such things as language, math and computers.

Take responsibility yourself

In addition to organizations having to take steps for transformation, the most important thing is for everyone to be aware that knowledge is necessary to remain relevant in the job market. Develop an attitude to act accordingly. 'How can I do relevant work that is fun and interesting at the same time'? 'What can I learn today and what am I good at?' These are crucial questions to remain relevant even in the digital age.
